About The Position

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Medical Card Hotline Office Coordinator. Under direction, this position will perform a variety of paraprofessional and technical office support functions. The position will answer calls on the Medical Card Hotline for DCFS, utilizing a working knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations involving Medicaid and private insurance carriers, as well as DCFS eligibility rules and practices. The position will review and make determinations regarding whether a temporary medical card needs to be issued when DCFS field staff report new episodes of protective custody. The position will provide assistance to foster/adoptive parents with pharmacy, preauthorization, and medical billing issues, utilizing knowledge of DCFS eligibility rules and practices. This position will also provide technical assistance and resolution to pharmacies and medical offices regarding billing issues and will research and troubleshoot third party liability issues. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and interested in playing a supporting role in the Department’s operations. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college OR completion of high school and two years of related office experience OR two years of independent business experience
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Medical Card Hotline Office Coordinator
  • Answers calls on the Medical Card Hotline for DCFS, utilizing a working knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations involving Medicaid and private insurance carriers, as well as DCFS eligibility rules and practices
  • Reviews children’s eligibility coding on system records and determines whether the information accurately corresponds with information contained on records in other systems, utilizing knowledge of coding that corresponds to each DCFS case type, such as foster care, adoption assistance, subsidized guardianship, etc.
  • Organizes and maintains various filing systems by regularly alphabetizing and filing documents, pulling files for quality control and other purposes, and logging and boxing closed files based upon a retention schedule, utilizing the ability to stand, lift, and bend
  • Addresses each call issue to resolution, escalating calls to the supervisor when appropriate
  • Receives documentation and forwards to supervisors for corrections
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
