About The Position

Seeking an experienced Hematology/Oncology APRN to support our bleeding disorders, benign hematology, and leukemia/lymphoma clinics. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to pediatric patients with bleeding disorders and benign hematologic disorders through assessment, diagnosis, clinical management & treatment, collaboration, coordination, education, and research. The position also serves as the KIDZ Clinical Hemophilia Treatment Center and 340B Clinical Coordinator, providing Nurse Practitioner support for leukemia/lymphoma patients and nursing support for in-office infusions.

Requirements

  • Experienced Hematology/Oncology APRN
  • Ability to work interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services to patients referred to the Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center for evaluation of a possible inherited bleeding disorders or other benign hematological disorders.
  • Performs physical examinations and specialized procedures under the direction of a physician.
  • Obtains/interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests and communicate findings to the families and medical team.
  • Charts all patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures; writes orders and records progress notes that will be reviewed and countersigned by supervising physician.
  • Formulates a family-centered health care plan in collaboration with other team members and documents the plan in EMR in a concise, physician targeted manner that facilitates patient adherence and outcome evaluation.
  • Evaluate responses to interventions and communicate these results to the family and team and modify plan of care as needed.
  • Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.
  • Responds to patient calls/questions forwarded by clinical team promptly and provides advice on clinical issues.
  • Generates letters of medical necessity, and other documentation as needed for patients.
  • Provides clinical assistance to team in obtaining prior approval from insurance companies for procedures when clinical information is required to complete the process.
  • Assumes a role of liaison for health care decisions between the HTC physicians and the health care providers in the community.
  • Serves as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, students, etc.
  • Participates in administrative meetings by providing suggestions and constructive feedback on improvements to care and the efficiency with which the program operates.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of program policies, operating procedures, clinical guidelines and other issues as they arise.
  • Represents the H/T Program in outside clinical and administrative initiatives.
  • Supports programmatic initiatives that are directed at quality improvement and programmatic development.
  • Communicates effectively with families in a way that recognizes their level of understanding, cultural belief systems and ability to adhere to recommended treatment plans.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with team members via constructive, positive interactions to promote team harmony, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provides clinical support for research trials, studies and projects.
  • Maintains other appropriate continuing education as needed to comply with federal regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
