About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. This is an anticipated vacancy effective March 1, 2026 This is a readvertisement. All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered. The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is designated as an emergency response Division and a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of NC through a variety of programs. The NCFS provides services to the 100 counties in NC. The primary purpose of this position is to assist and support the Assistant District Forester in the forest management program area. Also provides support and assistance to the District Forester and Office Manager in relation to other areas of North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) program delivery. Duties include but are not limited to: preparing and reviewing computer generated documents; electronic and hard copy filing; file organization; general accounting and accounts receivable; invoicing; reception and directing of the public; human resource and personnel assistance; purchasing and requisition according to agency standards; maintenance of local computer and technology systems; and emergency response relating to financial and/or administrative support of wildfire suppression or other "all-risk" emergency incidents as needed. Duty Station Location: District 3 Headquarters, 1163 North US Hwy #1, Rockingham, NC 28379

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of accounts payables and receivables.
  • Ability to utilize office equipment and other technology to meet work needs such as: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and QuickBooks.
  • Ability to navigate the internet to gather, retrieve and enter and create, proof and accurately edit a variety of clerical documents.
  • Must have attention to detail and possess skills relating to the organization and archival of documents, records and reports.
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities as well as manage time efficiently to meet expected deadlines.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
