Requirements

  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, responsive individual
  • Experience with contract administration and bookkeeping
  • Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications
  • Working knowledge of computer equipment (iPads, desktop), software (HiCams and SharePoint), and mathematical functions
  • Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form
  • Ability to establish positive lines of communication between technicians and engineers
  • Ability to manage/ maintain multiple projects/deadlines
  • Knowledge of highway construction and materials testing
  • High school diploma or equivalent OR associate’s degree in engineering technology, geomatics, or related field
  • A strong sense of responsibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform field measurements and complete mathematical calculations to determine areas and volumes, and convert between units
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work weekends and nights if required
  • Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • NCDOT Erosion and Sediment Control Level II certification
  • NCDOT Introduction to Asphalt certification
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway certification
  • NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling certification
  • NCDOT Conventional Density certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections of construction activities, including roadways, bridges, utilities, erosion control, and other infrastructure components, to verify compliance with construction drawings and NCDOT standards and specifications.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies, defects, or non-compliance issues.
  • Utilizing a company-provided iPad, maintain detailed daily records of construction activities.
  • Generate clear and concise inspection reports and other pertinent documentation, including test reports, material received reports, and pay estimates.
  • Maintain detailed records of onsite activities to aid in the development of as-built plans.
  • Perform materials testing on soil, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Collaborate with NCDOT staff, contractors, and other project stakeholders to address and resolve issues promptly.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols and best practices on construction sites.
  • Report safety hazards and assist in the resolution of safety concerns.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with project stakeholders, including NCDOT representatives, contractors, and project team members.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns promptly.
  • Compile, analyze, edit, and process data.
  • Perform a full range of calculations and computations.
  • Maintain record keeping and bookkeeping.
  • Review contractor’s certified payrolls for FHWA compliance and scheduling.
  • Manage DBE and EEO compliance.
  • Maintain technician certifications.
  • Maintain construction project budgets.
  • Review CEI invoices.
  • Check calculations.
  • Research project documents.
  • Perform construction project closeout documentation.
  • Perform other office duties and responsibilities as assigned.
