About The Position

This position assures the legal incarceration and release of subjects sentenced to the Colorado DOC by analyzing and auditing all incoming legal documents, calculating parole eligibility date, sentence discharge dates and scheduled primary parole board hearing months. The position has achieved training in all aspects of time computation and release operations and can carry a moderate caseload. The position has the ability to work largely independently, but knows when to ask questions to expand knowledge and experience. The position exchanges, collects and detects information through communication with attorneys and DOC personnel with regard to time computational statutory law, case law and DOC Administrative regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Three years of technical or high-level clerical experience.
  • Ability to obtain National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC) operator license.

  • Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist.
  • Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down.
  • Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows.
  • Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows.
  • Swing a baton in a striking technique.
  • Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic.
  • Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions.
  • Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security.
  • Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury.
  • Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently.
  • Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations.
  • Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner.

  • Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule.
  • TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical experience or high-level clerical experience working with the State of Colorado.
  • Advanced knowledge and proven work experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access) and Google Applications (Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Forms).

Responsibilities

  • Assure accuracy of documentation by auditing legal sentencing documents (Court Mittimuses, Orders, Parole Board Mittimuses) for accuracy and compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes for each person sentenced to the DOC.
  • Compile and systematize all legal documentation, statutory requirements and administrative regulations to quantify the length of legal incarceration for each person sentenced to the DOC.
  • Audit and analyze all time awards and losses entered into eOMIS by other DOC staff.
  • Implement the release process for persons being paroled, statutorily discharged or released by court order from the DOC by accessing the Colorado Crime Investigation Center/National Crime Investigation Center (CCIC/NCIC) network.
  • Guide DOC personnel (Case Managers and Parole Officers) in various basic areas, including issues dealing with Time Computation, such as reading a Time Computation Report, using DCIS most effectively, determining governing sentences and how specific statutes and case laws affect an individual offender.
  • Continue research and study statutory and case laws, and ask questions of more experienced staff in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of issues of time computation and release operations along the path toward expanding experience and knowledge, and gaining a more thorough understanding of how information fits together.
