About The Position

The Offender Grievance Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the entire grievance procedure, including informal complaints, emergency grievances, and regular grievances, to ensure compliance with the Department of Corrections policy. This role involves conducting investigations of inmate grievances, consulting with staff and inmates to resolve problems and investigate claims, and meeting with inmates as needed. The coordinator will also prepare responses for correspondence as required by the Operations Manager and may coordinate access to the Law Library and the Institutional Attorney.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) operations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws governing rights for the incarcerated.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews and investigations, research, and present findings clearly and accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to provide guidance and consultation to inmates needing assistance.
  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working and public relations.
  • Ability to organize and complete work assignments with minimal guidance from others.

  • Experience in a corrections facility providing direct contact with inmates.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access programs.

Responsibilities
