Off-Page SEO Specialist

FirecrawlSan Francisco, CA
$140,000 - $180,000Hybrid

About The Position

This role will own everything that builds Firecrawl's authority off its own site, including backlinks, digital PR, brand mentions, and securing citations within Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Perplexity. The position requires a blend of traditional off-page SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). The specialist will work closely with the growth strategy owner, taking full responsibility for the off-page function, including outreach, partnerships, mentions, citations, and performance measurement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an off-page SEO operator with a track record of building backlinks at scale, running digital PR campaigns, and demonstrable results (domains acquired, DR lift, referral traffic).
  • Significant depth in GEO, including experience tracking LLM citations, reverse-engineering content inclusion in AI Overviews/chat responses, and a strategy for brand citation.
  • Experience with technical or developer audiences, understanding the nuances of SEO for developer tools and relevant publications, newsletters, GitHub-adjacent properties, and dev community sites.
  • Strong outreach instincts, with the ability to write effective pitches that elicit responses and build relationships with editors, maintainers, or newsletter authors.
  • Comfortable working independently, owning the function without agency support or a dedicated team.
  • Data-literate, with proficiency in pulling and analyzing backlink data (e.g., Ahrefs), tracking LLM citation share, and connecting off-page efforts to signup or activation metrics.
  • Backgrounds often successful in this role include senior off-page SEOs at developer tool or PLG SaaS companies, in-house digital PR leads, or link builders with early GEO expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience directing an agency is not sufficient; hands-on experience is required.
  • No use of PBNs, link farms, or other black-hat tactics.
  • Not a generalist treating off-page as a secondary focus.
  • Understanding of both GEO and traditional SEO importance.

Responsibilities

  • Own off-page SEO end to end: link building, digital PR, partnerships, guest contributions, and relationship building for durable authority.
  • Own GEO: ensure Firecrawl is cited as an answer by LLMs for queries related to web scraping, LLM-ready data, or agent infrastructure. Track citations, analyze content inclusion, and develop a compounding strategy.
  • Build a scalable backlink acquisition system, including target lists, outreach sequences, response tracking, and measurement of DR and referral traffic impact.
  • Run digital PR campaigns by pitching Firecrawl to relevant publications, newsletters, podcasts, and roundups read by developers.
  • Partner with the content team to develop linkable assets such as original research, benchmarks, and technical deep-dives.
  • Monitor brand mentions, unlinked mentions, and competitor citations, converting opportunities and learning from failures.
  • Report weekly on key metrics including domains acquired, citation share within LLMs, referral traffic, and share of voice on target queries.
