About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking an ODOT Mechanic for Shelby County. This role involves performing preventative maintenance and service on a variety of vehicles and equipment, conducting minor repairs, and maintaining detailed records of all maintenance and repair work. Requirements

24 months of experience in automotive repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and/or all types of equipment identified by the agency.
Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of a type and size regulated by sections 4506.01 and 4506.12 of the Ohio revised code.
Alternatively, 12 months as ODOT Mechanic Trainee, 52151.
Valid Class A CDL without air brake restriction, with tanker endorsement must be obtained during the probationary period and maintained thereafter.
Must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Must undergo a criminal background check.
Must submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use.
Must not have a positive test for illegal drug use.
Must comply with federal testing regulations pursuant to 49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Part 382.

Nice To Haves

Experience with tunes for gas and/or diesel engines.
Experience inspecting engines, underbodies, and brakes.
Experience operating an electronic system scope.
Experience with body repair work.
Experience replacing shocks.
Experience repairing or replacing hydraulic pumps or systems.
Experience installing snowplow blades.
Experience repairing hydraulic systems on heavy/heaviest equipment.
Experience operating welding torches.
Experience operating snow plows, tow trucks, or other heavy equipment.
Experience with guardrail replacement.

Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment.
Perform minor repairs or other related mechanical work.
Maintain records of repairs & maintenance.
Assist higher-level ODOT mechanics with complex maintenance.
Repair, rebuild, and/or replace major parts on vehicles and equipment.
Perform miscellaneous mechanic work, including body repair and hydraulic system repairs.
Provide service and repair of vehicles and equipment on an emergency basis.
Make onsite service/outpost calls.
Operate welding torches to repair equipment.
Clean garage area, equipment, and tools.
Operate snow plow, tow truck, or other heavy equipment.
Pump fuel.
Attend training schools, safety meetings, and mechanic meetings.
Operate motor vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and supplies.
