About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking an Odor Technician to join their team. IWS is a progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services, primarily servicing Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, and New York City, with expanded operations into Pennsylvania and Ohio. The company aims to provide high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing employee, customer, and environmental safety. This role involves inspecting offsite odor complaints, detecting odors and their sources, performing traffic control, communicating with team members, maintaining vehicles and equipment, fueling, following safety standards, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of basic GPS systems (Maps on IPhones).
  • Basic data entry and record keeping.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment on a constant basis while being exposed to variable weather conditions, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, smells, and loud noises.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly and safely inspect offsite odor complaints in a reliable manner.
  • Detect the different odors and their sources in the surrounding community.
  • Perform traffic control such as guiding vehicles and equipment to appropriate areas, placing signs and cones for vehicle direction.
  • Effective communication with drivers, employees, and management via hand held radios and CBs.
  • Clean up of vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Fuel vehicles and equipment.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and wear required PPE.
  • Perform other duties assigned by manager as necessary, eg janitoral support, filing paperwork.
  • Conducting onsite and offsite inspections to ensure the landfill stays in compliance in regards to nuisance odors in the surrounding community.
  • Light housekeeping duties onsite.
