About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the Assistant Program Director and core faculty member for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Residential Program. The OTD program has a sustained record of excellence in education, research, leadership, and service. Working in a new state-of-the-art teaching facility and a world-class teaching hospital, MUSC students engage in interprofessional groups that mirror the world beyond the classrooms. The OTD program is fully accredited by ACOTE and is ranked 8th in the nation for OT programs by the U.S. News and World Report. The faculty have received numerous awards and accolades for teaching excellence and innovative curricular design at the local, regional, and national levels. Post-professional educational opportunities also exist through a post-professional OTD and a Ph.D. in Health and Rehabilitation Science. As part of the greater MUSC enterprise, the Division of OT is integral to the state’s only academic health sciences center known for its excellence in interprofessional education. In addition, the College of Health Professions (CHP) is ranked 11th in the nation in total NIH funding among Schools of Allied Health & Health Professions. OT faculty and students collaborate with a broad range of educators, clinicians, and researchers across the state, and several faculty hold dual appointments in CHP and other MUSC Departments. Through its strong history, outstanding record of educating occupational therapists, and dedication to interprofessional education and research, the Division of OT is poised to advance the Department’s and the College's overall goal of achieving national distinction in education, research, leadership, and service. The successful faculty candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the OTD program, develop a scholarly agenda, and participate in community and professional service appropriate for the faculty rank. Combinations of areas of clinical expertise are welcome, and we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse perspectives. Candidates from all clinical and teaching backgrounds relevant to rehabilitation will be fully considered. Candidates for Associate Professor and Professor must have a proven track record of scholarship, graduate student advising, and teaching at the Doctoral level consistent with MUSC-ranked faculty. Evidence of leadership experience in an academic setting is preferred. The final rank and salary of the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • Have or must be eligible for licensure in South Carolina
  • Have a minimum of six years of previous faculty experience.
  • Have a terminal academic doctorate in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities (Ph.D., Ed.D., DSc, etc.)
  • Understand higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education; knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic coursework, capstone and fieldwork, and the profession.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the OTD curriculum and curriculum revisions/modifications.
  • Prepare all curriculum forms (minor and subsequent changes) and submit them to the residential program director, who serves as the Division Director (DD), for final approval.
  • Assure all information, curricula, publications, and website information is up to date.
  • Assist the DD in planning and facilitating faculty retreats focused on curriculum changes/modifications and the OT Division’s strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with the Hybrid OTD program leadership to ensure the curriculum meets accreditation standards and achieves overall program goals and expected outcomes.
  • Provide residential faculty mentorship as needed.
  • Support the Professional Development Committee (comprised of faculty) when student issues arise and bring recommendations to the residential program director for final approval.
  • Represent the OTD Residential Program to MUSC, the community, and the occupational therapy profession.
  • Attend program, division, college, and national-level leadership meetings when the residential program director/DD is unavailable.
  • Provide direct support to the DD for all external (ACOTE, NBCOT) and internal (University, College, Department, and Division) reports. This includes annual reports, semi-annual reports, interim reports, and reaccreditation self-study.
  • Teach courses as agreed upon with the OTD Division and with the workloads aligned with the policies in the faculty handbook.
  • Demonstrate contemporary knowledge and skill/expertise in the areas of assigned teaching.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally, in writing and orally, both in person and online.
  • Based on the rank status of the faculty member, service should be at least at the state, national, or international level.
  • All MUSC OTD faculty will participate in Program/Division and Departmental service.
  • Occupational Therapy faculty regularly collaborate with educators in other MUSC departments and colleges.
  • Substantial resources are available to support the successful applicant's line of research.
