The Staff Occupational Therapist Assistant assists the Staff Occupational Therapist with resident related activities and direct resident care. This role involves treating residents as directed by the Occupational Therapist, completing timely and accurate documentation, and maintaining a safe treatment environment. The assistant participates in resident care conferences and rehabilitation meetings, and may assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides. Communication with the supervising occupational therapist is routine to ensure updates to physicians, nursing staff, the interdisciplinary team, residents, and families regarding progress, goals, and discharge planning. The role also includes providing in-services on training programs, educating residents and families, and recommending and facilitating the ordering of necessary durable medical equipment. Maintaining confidentiality of resident and company information, reporting equipment issues, and contributing to quality assurance initiatives are also key aspects of this position. The ability to relate positively and effectively with residents, families, staff, and colleagues is essential.
