About The Position

Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, is a new facility located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno, offering expanded services including acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health. Our acute rehabilitation services provide occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or other disabling conditions, with advanced treatments for a wide range of issues. Patients benefit from private rooms, a renovated therapy gym, and personalized care. The adult behavioral health services cater to individuals 18 and older, managed by a multidisciplinary team, offering individualized care plans, therapy, medication management, and a secure environment. This part-time Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) opportunity offers full benefits and a convenient schedule. The COTA is responsible for administering occupational therapy modalities under the supervision of a staff occupational therapist, assisting with patient functioning restoration, and helping patients reach their maximum performance levels. The role also involves participating in departmental operations, performance improvement, CQI activities, infection control, equipment training, and safety programs.

Requirements

  • Nevada COTA license
  • Holds current certificate as Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Administering occupational therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff occupational therapist.
  • Administering treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff occupational therapist after patient evaluation.
  • Assisting with the restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability.
  • Assisting patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
  • Participating in operational aspects of the department.
  • Maintaining performance improvement activities within the department.
  • Participating in CQI activities.
  • Participating in all infection control, departmental equipment training, and organizational safety programs.
  • Providing treatment as directed by the staff occupational therapist.
  • Adhering to standards of physical medicine practice.
  • Observing and evaluating treatment effect, and discussing observations with the staff occupational therapist.
  • Performing components of an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general adult patient population.
  • Performing all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
