The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will treat patients as directed by the Occupational Therapist, record daily treatment notes and weekly progress notes, and treat patients per the physician treatment plan. This role will also assist the nursing department with training of Restorative Aides, communicate with supervisors and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans, and participate in in-service training programs for other staff. The COTA will record evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, and recertification documentation according to the Occupational Therapy Board State Practice Act and governmental and third-party payer requirements. They will also record treatment changes per policy and procedures, instruct patient’s families or nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training in preparation for discharge, and participate in discharge planning. Additionally, the COTA will assist with cleaning and maintenance of the treatment area and report any problems with department equipment.
