About The Position

Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant administers safe, effective treatment interventions to help patients improve the skills needed to carry out activities of daily living.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • None (minimum work experience)
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure in the State of Florida.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills or willingness to learn.

  • Previous work experience as an occupational therapy assistant, or clinical rotations in similar environment.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.
  • Physical Rehabilitation certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient safety at all times and ensures compliance with precautions and documents all current precautions and changes in status.
  • Communicates and collaborates with Occupational Therapist regarding treatment plans, expectations and patient progress; monitors patients’ response to treatment and modifies treatment plan as appropriate. Follows the plan of care and consults with the therapist when changes to the plan may be indicated or when a progress note or reassessment is due.
  • Provides patients with a variety of best practice and evidence based therapeutic interventions that progress them towards their goals and documents treatments according to applicable guidelines, standards and policies.
  • Recognizes personal limitations and capabilities and utilizes available resources, adapts to patient learning styles and appropriately teaches patients skills and techniques required for participation in occupational therapy.
  • Engages in promoting evidence-based standards of care and life-long learning through autonomous and collaborative research review, such as journal club, teaching/mentoring/clinical instructing, or clinical practice education within a peer group. Communicates with referring licensed practitioners.
  • Attends department meetings that take place during scheduled work hours; otherwise, reviews and signs meeting minutes, as well as, in-services given by other Associates and students that take place during scheduled work hours.
  • Supports consumer marketing and public awareness through participating in community events, educational lectures, and/or other extension of clinical expertise to the community as approved by the manager.
  • Meets patient scheduling requirements, ensuring productivity targets are met, and utilizing time, supplies and support staff responsibly.
  • Adheres to documentation standards as required by industry standards; regularly participates in chart reviews and peer reviews, as well as reporting incidents as required by state and department requirements.
  • Participates in training new Associates and students as needed, and conducts other duties as assigned.
