About The Position

Centra Rehabilitation Hospital is a brand-new 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility opening in 2026. We offer high-quality, compassionate care for a wide variety of patients in need. Our teams provide evidence-based, transformational care for a broad range of injuries and illnesses in a compassionate, comfortable environment. The Occupational Therapist will assume responsibility and accountability for the care of patients treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students. This role may involve orienting staff and students and assuming supervisory duties in their absence, as qualified. The position requires assessing patient needs, initiating appropriate occupational therapy interventions, and working cooperatively with other patient team personnel to maintain standards of practice and teamwork. Responsibilities include observing and evaluating treatment effects, recommending changes to physicians, performing patient assessments and reassessments, and completing accurate QI scoring. The target patient population includes adult and geriatric patients requiring adult medical rehabilitation. The therapist will assess and manage patient pain that interferes with optimal function and participation in rehabilitation, making appropriate interventions and physician contacts. Patient care will be performed in an environment that optimizes safety and minimizes errors. Progress and discharge barriers will be reported in team conferences. A teaching plan will be formulated based on identified learning needs, including family as appropriate, and its effectiveness evaluated. All aspects of documentation will be performed accurately and timely. The therapist will demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities, treating patients and families with respect and dignity, and identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state where the hospital is located.
  • Current CPR/BLS

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy preferred but not required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English with additional languages preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability as indicated for the care of those patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians and occupational therapy students.
  • May be assigned to orient staff and students and assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual as qualified to do so.
  • Assesses patients’ needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional occupational therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Observes and evaluates treatment affect, accomplishment of short and long term goals.
  • Recommends change to physician, if needed.
  • Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments, as per policy.
  • Performs accurate and timely QI scoring.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function of participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Reports patient progress and barriers to discharge in each patient team conference.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate.
  • Performs appropriate documentation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
