About The Position

As an Occupational Therapist at Dignity Health - Northridge Hospital Medical Center, you will help patients regain independence and quality of life so they can safely perform daily activities. You will assess patients with diverse diagnoses, develop treatment plans, conduct evaluations and re-evaluations, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, document care, and provide motivating support to a high volume of patients.

The role treats patients across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age ranges. Staff are assigned only age ranges for which they meet education, experience, and training requirements. Patients ages 0–21 with CCS insurance will be seen by or have oversight from a CCS-paneled therapist.

You will establish functional goals with the interdisciplinary team, develop and modify evidence-based treatment plans around patient rehabilitation potential and patient/family/Care Partner needs, and provide education to patients, families, Care Partners, and caregivers. You will follow patient precautions and handoff guidelines, monitor responses to treatment, and report unusual occurrences.

Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a 394-bed acute-care nonprofit hospital founded in 1955 that serves more than 80,000 patients annually. Its services include a Level II Trauma Center, heart care, cancer care, and women’s health. It is the San Fernando Valley’s only pediatric trauma center and has received several healthcare recognitions.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of Occupational Therapy with a baccalaureate degree or higher.
• Academic curriculum must include coursework in growth and development, gerontology, and therapeutic procedures for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• New applicants must provide documentation of continuing education or experience.
• Demonstrate participation in external continuing education upon annual appraisal.
• California Occupational Therapist credential required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) required upon hire.
• Fire Safety training required within 90 days.
• Must be flexible, adaptable, exceptionally organized, and a personable, motivating team player.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with varying diagnoses and disorders according to established Occupational Therapy guidelines.
• Establish functional goals with the interdisciplinary team based on the patient’s rehabilitation potential.
• Develop, implement, and modify treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve established goals, using evidence-based practice where available.
• Incorporate patient, family, and Care Partner needs, interests, and goals into treatment planning and delivery.
• Provide patient, family, Care Partner, and caregiver education as soon as feasible after admission, using techniques such as teach-back, demonstration, video, and written handouts.
• Establish and follow patient precautions.
• Observe patient responses to treatment and report unusual occurrences.
• Follow handoff guidelines.
• Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and document care.
