About The Position

The OT provides occupational therapy evaluation and treatment to children and adolescents referred to CHP or facilities contracted with CHP. Occupational therapists collaborate with the family and medical team to optimize the child's functional self-care and fine motor abilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Must possess knowledge of normal human growth and development over the lifespan.
  • Must be skilled in planning/organization, follow up/control, delegation, problem solving, self-development orientation, organizational behaviors/competencies, and stress tolerance.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Clearances with renewal: Act 31, 33, 34, & 73

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer previous pediatric experience including student fieldwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains effective communication with peers and leadership within the dept, health care team members within CHP and outside referring physicians and school personnel.
  • Pursues professional growth and development through participation in departmental in-services, literature discussions, continuing education and the quest of knowledge and research relevant to areas of practice and the mission and vision of CHP and the department
  • Integrate family centered care through the education of caregivers in appropriate activities for carryover of goals and intervention in the home and community settings. Communicates significant changes in the child's status to the physician.
  • Performs occupational therapy assessment and re-assessment using objective tests and measures or standardized assessments to identify the child's functional abilities and impairments impeding their function.
  • Assists with clinical instruction for physical therapy students, job shadow students, and other student related observations.
  • Develops and implements an appropriate treatment intervention plan which reflects clinical knowledge, evaluation findings and is updated and modified based on the patient's response and progress.
  • Establishes a plan of care with long-term and short-term goals to remediate the impairments and functional limitations identified during the evaluation process.
  • Maintains written/electronic documentation for all clinical services rendered including documentation of the initial assessment, re-assessment, cancellations, follow-up visits, and discharge summary which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization.
  • Completes certification and re-certification required by third party payers.
  • Participate in and is supportive of departmental projects (lectures to Hospital staff, community education, research, and strategic plan).
  • Recommends, orders, and/or fabricates necessary splints, adaptive devices and durable medical equipment in consultation with the patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
