About The Position

Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $140 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City. The SCC Occupational Therapist will be responsible for designing and implementing OT programming for individuals in acute crisis who require connections to services and supports that promote recovery-oriented care. Under the guidance of the designated supervising Senior OT, the SCC OT will provide direct OT treatment to facilitate the development of each guest’s ability to access and effectively utilize resources that support stability and positive change. Collaborate as a member of the multidisciplinary team to achieve overall program goals around guest stabilization, connections to care, and optimal health and wellbeing. Provide a therapeutic structure to the daily operation of the program which promotes guest participation and enables them to utilize their time in a productive and meaningful way.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current valid NYS licensure, or temporary licensure at time of hire.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a trauma informed approach to care and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of severe and persistent mental illness and training and/or experience in community based behavioral health is strongly preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Working with program leadership to identify primary goals and role of OT on site.
  • Ensuring that all guests are aware of the OT program and services available.
  • Working with program staff to identify guests in need of services.
  • Conducting individual assessments and generating person-centered intervention plans
  • Developing, implementing, and leading skill-based OT groups to address guests’ needs and goals.
  • Conducting 1:1 OT sessions focused on developing skills for effective ADL performance.
  • Conducting 1:1 and group sessions to build skills for personal safety and reduce risk of adverse events.
  • Assisting with linking guests to appropriate internal PRI resources.
  • Assisting with linking guests to appropriate community-based services.
  • Coordinating and/or providing appointment escorts as indicated.
  • Planning program-wide special events to foster engagement and community integration.
  • Providing 1:1 and group OT services to aftercare clients previously admitted to SCC, with a focus on promoting ongoing progress toward individualized, client centered treatment goals.
  • Documenting all clinical work as per program requirements
  • Providing clinical supervision to the OT Interns on site.
  • Collaborating with all members of the multidisciplinary team for effective coordination of care.
  • Participating in clinical team meetings, trainings, and staff meetings as indicated.
  • Collaborating with OTs across the agency to facilitate warm handoffs and effective connections to care with necessary services.
  • Participating in Department-wide OT meetings and presentations.
  • Participating in weekly supervision with the designated OT Supervisor.
