About The Position

Banner Health is seeking a Full-time Occupational Therapist for Torrington Community Hospital, a critical access hospital in Torrington, Wyoming. This role involves evaluating and treating outpatient and inpatient populations in a rural setting, supervising assistants when appropriate, and communicating with patients, caregivers, and providers. The hospital, opened in 1977, provides excellent medical care to residents in southeast Wyoming and bordering Nebraska communities. It is a 25-bed facility that has recently undergone an expansion and remodel, featuring modern medical technology. The Therapies team is strong with good longevity and work-life balance. Evaluations and treatments are provided on a 1:1 basis, with an average of 8 patients per day, allowing for documentation to be completed during the workday. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed the academic requirements of an educational program in occupational therapy approved by the appropriate governing board.
  • Must possess a current Occupational Therapy license from the State of practice.
  • Current license from state of practice.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to become proficient with computer software applications commonly used in an automated patient care environment.
  • Employees working for Banner Home Care AZ must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patient's functional abilities and limitations, determines if intervention is needed, and establishes a plan of care and treatment goals.
  • Completes comprehensive evaluation within the established time frame set by the department, identifies and prioritizes key limiting factors, and establishes functional, measurable, patient-related treatment goals.
  • Collaborates with patient and family/caregiver when setting goals and initiates discharge planning.
  • Recommends additions to or modifications of referring orders.
  • Implements individualized treatment plan with consideration to the patient's physical, social, spiritual, cultural, educational, and age-specific needs.
  • Provides skilled treatment in a safe manner and assesses ongoing effectiveness of treatment, modifying the plan of care as indicated.
  • Involves patient and family/caregiver in the treatment and decision-making process.
  • Provides ongoing education to physician, nurse, patient, family/caregiver, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents according to standards set by the department and regulatory agencies, ensuring legibility and completion within established time frames.
  • Documents innovative and individualized treatment techniques/plan, and reassesses treatment goals according to department policies.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information to ensure the best possible follow-through of care, including evaluation/treatment results and patient progress to physicians, nurses, patient, family/caregiver, co-workers, and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicates in a clear and timely manner and accepts responsibility to contact physicians for routine or difficult problem-solving to ensure optimal patient outcome.
  • Defends treatment rationale with standard practices and/or current literature.
  • Exhibits adaptability in assignments related to caseload, scheduling, and staffing shifts.
  • Takes initiative to assist in other patient care areas and accepts responsibility for all patient care needs.
  • Demonstrates appropriate direction and delegation of personnel (COTA, Therapy Technician, student) to achieve safe delivery of quality, cost-effective patient care, complying with department policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in the training and orientation of new personnel and assures competency of personnel prior to delegation of tasks.
  • Participates in department/facility process improvements and meets productivity standards set by the department.
  • Interacts with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts concerning patient healthcare.
  • Interacts with physician offices to report, require, or clarify information.
