About The Position

Episcopal SeniorLife Communities provides high-quality services from skilled nursing and restorative care to housing, assisted living, and community-based wellness programs. The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for overseeing the provision of occupational therapy services and providing direct service to residents. The OT is also responsible for the coordination of the occupational therapy staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Good management skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.
  • Basic computer skills required, including but not limited to operating within a Windows OS, the ability to open, create and save electronic documents, and the ability to open, create and send emails.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • An unexpired NYS Occupational Therapy license.
  • Three (3) years fulltime experience practicing occupational therapy in a nursing home or health care facility.
  • Occasional sitting, walking and standing.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to sit, talk, and hear is required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Renders occupational therapy evaluation/treatments with a physician’s referral.
  • Provides occupational therapy treatments; supervises treatments provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and revises treatments as needed.
  • Recommends and assists in providing residents with functional equipment (wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, etc.).
  • Works closely with physician, other professionals and consultants to integrate occupational therapy into the multi-disciplinary team care plan.
  • Participates in resident and family education and meetings, including team conferences, home evaluations and discharge planning.
  • Documents resident admission and discharge evaluations per occupational therapy department policy.
  • Documents progress notes to update status of residents receiving occupational therapy.
  • Documents re-admissions, re-evaluations, consultations and other specific requests per department policy.
  • Tracks daily occupational therapy referrals to ensure they are being evaluated in a timely manner.
  • On a daily basis, records the number of treatments provided and time spent as per occupational therapy department policy.
  • Manages RUGS categories to ensure residents are placed in the appropriate categories necessary to optimize both reimbursement and time spent in therapy.
  • Assists Director with maintaining oversight of daily therapy schedule in order to maximize utilization of staff.
  • Assists in the provision of in-service education related to occupational therapy for department personnel on an on-going basis, or at least quarterly.
  • Provides facility in-services as needed.
  • Assists in new staff orientation program as needed.
  • Attends departmental in-services, staff meetings and required facility in-services.
  • Provides acceptable dept. standard of productivity in providing therapy to residents.
  • Updates skills and knowledge regarding occupational therapy issues/techniques related to the geriatric population.
  • Attends one or more professional conferences per year.
