About The Position

Plans and conducts occupational therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help individuals recover from illness, injury, or developmental or psychological conditions. Administers treatments to improve self-care, daily living skills, communication, mobility, cognitive function, social integration, and play/leisure skills.

Requirements

  • Occupational Therapist from the Mississippi Department of Health required by the hire date.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and/or kinesiology.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, as well as for counseling and guidance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, family members, and staff.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to motivate individuals to set and achieve goals.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize complex medical data and use results to administer appropriate tests and evaluate patients’ physical and cognitive status.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning to develop and update a comprehensive plan of care in collaboration with the patient and family, including measurable short- and long-term goals and a defined discharge plan.
  • Utilize appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitor patient responses, and adapt programs as needed.
  • Ensure that patients and families verbalize or demonstrate understanding of the information provided.
  • Follow intervention protocols and revise interventions appropriately, discharging patients when goals are met, or medical necessity is no longer indicated.
  • Maintain timely, legible, and efficient patient care documentation that meets professional and departmental standards.
  • Provide clear, concise, and pertinent oral reports.
  • Design, provide, and train patients and families in the use of assistive technology, devices, orthotics, prosthetics, splints, and environmental adaptations to support occupational performance.
  • Provide guidance and supervision in therapy techniques and objectives for students and other medical staff.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding patient treatment programs.
  • Consistently meet patient care productivity standards as established for the job classification.
