About The Position

Mary Cariola Center is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide students with sound clinical programs to meet their Occupational Therapy needs as outlined on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). This role involves conducting clinical programs in individual and/or group sessions, providing consultation and training for classroom staff, and working cooperatively with team members and parents to develop and implement therapeutic programs. The therapist will also be responsible for designing and obtaining adaptive equipment, maintaining documentation, and understanding the characteristics of the population served. Additionally, the role includes providing clinical instruction for future therapists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
  • NYS Occupational Therapy license (or in pursuit of)

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Prior experience in Occupational Therapy

Responsibilities

  • Provide students with sound clinical programs to meet their Occupational Therapy needs as outlined on their Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Conduct clinical programs in individual and/or group sessions as per the IEP
  • Provide on-going consultation, training, and support for classroom staff to carry over therapeutic programs
  • Provide students with appropriate sensory motor programs
  • Work cooperatively with team members in the evaluation and development of prescriptive feeding programs designed to improve oral motor abilities
  • Attend various discipline related meetings and in-services (e.g. team meetings, department meetings, program meetings, staff development days)
  • Work closely with parents to provide appropriate home programs
  • Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team responsible for coordinating and implementing goals and recommendations for each student
  • Design and/or obtain adaptive positioning systems necessary to provide proper alignment and facilitate independent movement patterns (e.g. wheel chairs, standers)
  • Participate in the design and/or modification of adaptive equipment or devices (e.g. utensils, switches)
  • Maintain written documentation in accordance with departmental and agency regulations
  • Understand the psychological, social and medical characteristics of the population served
  • Provide clinical instruction for future therapists
  • Other duties as assigned
