About The Position

ONE KIDS PLACE Children’s Treatment Centre provides rehabilitation and related support services for children and youth (up to the age of 19) and their families living in the Districts of Muskoka, Nipissing and Parry Sound. All staff will provide service within an interdisciplinary team environment committed to family-centered practice. The Occupational Therapist provides assessment, treatment, transition and discharge support to assist children and youth to achieve their optimum rehabilitation potential in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. Clinical supervision of therapy assistants, as well as family and community partner education will be important components of all positions.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • 2 years related work experience within a pediatric/health care setting with children and youth with special needs preferred
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
  • Working knowledge of community resources and supports within the Districts of Nipissing, Muskoka, and Parry Sound
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable vehicle
  • Computer competency and adaptable in the use of computer software for the purpose of assessments, documentation, programming and communication.
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred
  • ADP authorizer is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality family-centered care through assessment and treatment programs to assist children/youth in achieving their maximal functional ability in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.
  • Utilizes therapeutic techniques / modalities as necessary in the provision of therapy.
  • Documents client-related activities and workload practices according to Children’s Treatment Centre and College standards. Maintains client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Communicates effectively and ensures continuity of care by making treatment decisions in close collaboration with the child/youth/family, other rehabilitation staff, and other community service providers as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Works with the child/youth, family and/or other caregivers to identify specific treatment/intervention and design appropriate daily activities and programs. The focus may be prevention, maintenance and/or development of new skills for the child/youth and family.
  • Provides clinical supervision within the discipline’s scope of practice to designated support personnel and/or placement students.
  • Provides equipment recommendations / prescriptions and/or refers children/youth to appropriate services, both internally within the CTC and externally to community partners.
  • Acts as a resource/educator for the children/youth, families, and community partners through the development and implementation of education programs.
  • Pursues on-going professional development and growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
