About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of Director of Care and Clinical Manager, the Occupational Therapist will be responsible for assessment, care planning, rehab intervention and evaluation of outcomes for residents and the planning and implementation of rehabilitation programs, ensuring they are in accordance with Wing Kei’s Person and Family Centered Care framework and are aligned with our Vision, Mission and Core Values. The Occupational Therapist will work in the interdisciplinary team improve or maintain residents’ full potential of functioning in activities of daily living. With the opening of our new Highland Park facility, this position may expand to Full Time status.

Requirements

  • Is aligned with Wing Kei’s vision and mission to continue to deliver excellence in seniors’ care
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists
  • Exhibits quick and effective critical thinking, judgement and decision making
  • Possesses good observation skills, keen attention to details and sensitivity to residents’ feelings, preferences and needs
  • Possesses effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills to engage/motivate residents of varying abilities and to communicate/collaborate with families and the interdisciplinary team. The ability to communicate in Chinese would be helpful, but not necessary
  • Is flexible to work occasional evenings or Saturdays
  • Experience in working in Long Term Care or Support Living (SL4) setting preferred (physical rehab, transfer/mobility assessments and mobility aid assessments)
  • Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) authorization status preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates, promotes and advocates the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values
  • Conduct therapeutic assessment, treatment goals/plans and regular care plan review for residents to remove barriers that prevents residents from participating in meaningful activities of daily living and to maximize independence and participation
  • Complete and prepare reports and documentation in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures
  • In collaboration with residents, families, interdisciplinary team members and volunteers, promote physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being through engagement in therapeutic and exercises
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Rehab Assistants
  • Contribute to education and training of residents/clients and families to improve self-care, mobility and independence
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives at unit, facility and program levels
  • Participate in on-going training to ensure that high standards of service and best practices in the field are achieved
