About The Position

The Occupational Therapist facilitates the handicapped student’s independent functioning in the school setting. This role involves conducting evaluations, planning and implementing intervention programs, providing consultative services, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. The therapist is also responsible for managing resources, supervising assistants, and adhering to professional and ethical standards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree in Health Services.
Licensed by the state of Florida.
Certified by the state of Florida.
Knowledge of screening, assessment, treatment and documentation services.
Knowledge of student eligibility guidelines.
Knowledge of student exit criteria.
Ability to manage budgets and resources, including appropriate assessment materials, treatment supplies and equipment.
Ability to manage time to handle caseloads, schedule and conduct paraprofessional training.
Ability to supervise certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and paraprofessionals.
Skill in communication strategies for varied target groups, including parents and school personnel.

Responsibilities

Conduct appropriate evaluation of students referred for possible exceptional student education needs and prepare reports of the evaluation and findings.
Plan intervention and service delivery programs to meet student’s individual needs.
Implement and direct interventions essential to meeting targeted students’ needs.
Provide information and consultative services to appropriate personnel in support of students with disabilities.
Provide effective verbal and written communications to administrators, teachers, parents and other community agencies.
Establish schedules for meeting with students, conferencing with parents and assisting in rehabilitation techniques.
Provide resources to all stakeholders involved in the evaluation, identification of student needs and rehabilitation of students.
Adhere to ethical / professional standards and to the rules governing the program at federal, state and local levels.
Requisition equipment, text and other resources.
Inventory supplies and distribute to the appropriate staff.
Attend workshops and seminars designed for professional growth.
Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
Model and maintain high ethical standards.
Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
Maintain positive relationships with staff, students and parents.
Communicate effectively with staff, students and parents.
Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.

Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
