About The Position

The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. Fulfilling this mission requires employees working across our hospitals, clinics, programs, and offices to deliver services and support the communities we serve. Individuals interested in joining SFDPH should expect to work in person across these settings. The San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration are the core divisions of SFDPH. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers. The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco: health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response. Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services. Under general supervision, the Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, and implements appropriate Occupational Therapy habilitative and rehabilitative treatment interventions for clients in acute-care and long-term hospitals, senior programs, mental health settings, clinical outpatient centers, home health, public school settings, and other similar institutions.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Occupational Therapy License issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT).
  • 3 months of pediatric experience
  • Possession of a valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Eligibles who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s),but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of the hire date and maintain validity throughout the length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of the hire date and throughout the length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Occupational therapists who have experience working with individuals who have sustained poly-trauma, neurologic impairment, orthopedic injury, and general medicine patients are encouraged to apply.
  • OTs in this division provide group and individual psycho-social interventions for adults in the inpatient locked psychiatric acute and sub-acute units, jail psychiatric unit, and psychiatric emergency service.
  • OTs with experience leading a variety of evidenced-based practice groups and those familiar with sensory modulation interventions are encouraged to apply.
  • Occupational Therapists who are interested in working with a dynamic, diverse, and team-oriented group of professionals in this care setting should apply.
  • Occupational Therapists who have experience working with under-served San Francisco individuals, who have neurological impairments such as traumatic and acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, as well as polytrauma, and hand therapy, will be an asset.
  • Experienced therapists and new graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Occupational therapists with two (2) or more years of clinical experience and a desire to practice occupational therapy with a diverse patient population and on a dynamic and collaborative care team should apply.
  • Previous home health experience is not required,but is highly desirable.
  • Occupational Therapists who have experience, or a strong desire to work with the underserved San Francisco population, display a high level of self-awareness, and are comfortable working in an autonomous environment are an asset and encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants who are comfortable working in an autonomous environment are strongly desired.
