About The Position

The Newly Institute is seeking Occupational Therapists to join their multi-disciplinary clinical teams across Canada. The institute is leading a paradigm shift in the Canadian healthcare system by building a network of purpose-built mental health clinics. They utilize a bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatment model combined with medically managed therapies to provide intensive outpatient programs for anxiety, depression, addiction, PTSD, trauma, and chronic pain, aiming for rapid access, resolution, and return to work and healthy lifestyle programs. Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of experience supporting clients with mental health conditions, including assessment, triage, and treatment, is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems is required.
  • Applicants must be eligible for registration and maintain active registration with the applicable provincial occupational therapy regulatory body in the province where they practice.
  • Professional liability insurance is required.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon satisfactory employment references and a clear police background check, including a vulnerable sector check where applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting first responders is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with third-party funders is considered an asset.
  • Training certificates in trauma therapy, specifically Prolonged Exposure Therapy, are considered an asset.
  • This role may require occasional travel. A valid driver's license and appropriate insurance coverage may be required depending on the position and location.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments, in vivo exposure, group facilitation, return-to-work (RTW) planning, and one-to-one occupational therapy treatment for a range of mental health conditions.
  • Work with clients in WorkSafe programs, Veterans, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Intensive Outpatient, Flex, and other specialized programs.
  • Collaborate with members of the clinic's multi-disciplinary team to achieve positive client outcomes.
  • Provide individual occupational therapy sessions.
  • Conduct efficient and effective clinical client assessments (mental health history, risk assessment, trauma, and activities of daily living).
  • Facilitate psychoeducation groups (based on ACT, In-Vivo Exposure, sleep education, DBT skills, mindfulness, and other psychoeducation topics).
  • Provide resource-based interventions, case management and coordination, transition, or discharge planning as required.
  • Assist in grounding and reflection post-psychopharmacological treatment as required.
  • Support clients in building functional independence and quality of life through interventions focused on daily living skills, energy conservation and pacing, pain management and education, and establishing sustainable routines and daily structure.
  • Demonstrate expertise and skills to support clients presenting with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Major Depressive Disorder, Personality Disorders, Psychological Injury, Chronic Pain Management, and Return-to-Work Barriers.
  • Participate in weekly case consultations and complex case discussions with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary model with other therapists by sharing a client caseload.
  • Communicate regularly with other clinicians regarding client progress and care concerns.
  • Attend relevant clinical meetings, including program-specific meetings.
  • Engage in professional consultation and supervision opportunities.
  • Ensure same-day completion of session notes.
  • Complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide reporting to third parties and community referral sources.
  • Communicate effectively with employers, insurers, and case managers.
  • Participate in mental health promotion activities and contribute to establishing and maintaining mental health and addictions community resources.
  • Other responsibilities related to the role and scope of work may be assigned.
