About The Position

Under general supervision, provides direct patient care to children with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in clinic, inpatient, outpatient and outreach programs. Provides occupational therapy evaluation, consultation and intervention services for assigned routine to complex pediatric patients, in accordance with the CT Children's patient care delivery model and program policies and procedures. Collaborates with children, families, other health care team members and community resources to implement and coordinate a continuous plan of care, and to educate patients and families in appropriate occupational therapy methods. Participates in assigned staff development and research activities. Reports to leadership in the occupational therapy department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an approved course of study in Occupational Therapy.
  • State of Connecticut Department of Public Health licensure in Occupational Therapy required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of: Anatomy, physiology and kinesiology; Occupational therapy theory, practice; indications and contraindications of various physical agent modalities and occupational therapy techniques.
  • Beginning to intermediate skill in Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent Time Management, Organizational and Communication Skills
  • Perform standardized clinical assessments in conjunction with clinical observations and family/medical reports to determine individual patient needs.
  • Perform a range of occupational therapy techniques for patients including but not limited to Neuro- developmental Therapy, Feeding, Sensory Integration, Manual Therapies and Modalities.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Use independent judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in pediatric therapy strongly preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducts an effective clinical assessment for assigned routine to complex patients, utilizing multiple sources/methods for data collection and interprets data to create an individual plan of care.
  • Develops intervention/treatment plans in concert with the interdisciplinary plan of care, including specific goals and a variety of direct and consultative intervention approaches, maximizing available resources within both hospital and community networks.
  • Partners with the child, family and health care team members to define and implement occupational therapy interventions that support identified needs relative to prevention of delays, promotion of independence, remediation for loss of function and compensation for deficits.
  • Provides education to patient and families, monitors response to treatment plan and revises accordingly. Seeks assistance, as needed, in advanced treatment approaches.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from infancy through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
  • Completes required clinical documentation in an organized and timely manner, in accordance with all department standards.
  • Completes billing sheets in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Tracks insurance authorizations and prescriptions, and requests updates as per department policy.
  • Maintains expected patient care productivity per department policy.
  • May provide support, guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members in one clinical area.
  • May act as a clinical instructor for students after one year of practice as a pediatric Occupational Therapist.
  • Actively engages in literature reviews as related to patient caseload.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings and case reviews.
  • As assigned, participates in research activities.
  • Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CT Children's STANDARDS.
  • May supervise students during clinical field experience.
