Sanford Bismarck Therapy is seeking a PRN OT interested in a flexible schedule. The innovative therapy department offers an environment and treatment tools to foster superior services and achieve optimal patient outcomes, providing on the job training and mentorship through an experienced team. The connection with Sanford Health provides immediate access and communication with Sanford physicians and specialists. The Occupational Therapist assesses clients/patients/residents and designs occupational therapy treatments to help them develop, maintain, and recover their ability to perform tasks in their occupations of life. The therapist conducts evaluations and provides interventions for clients/patients/residents with functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments, evaluating physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial abilities to develop realistic therapy goals and administer appropriate occupational therapy programs. The role involves documenting client information, establishing and modifying therapeutic plans, and providing education to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes. Therapists are expected to utilize age-related treatments and evaluations, incorporate current research into daily treatment, and may treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders. Documentation must adhere to departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements, and treatment levels should be associated with their specialty, following accepted clinical practice guidelines. The position requires flexibility with work schedules/assignments, participation in departmental promotion activities, and interaction with various external individuals including providers, case managers, family members, and third-party payers. Supervision of assistants, aides, and students may be required, along with providing ongoing education and training to peers. Work may focus on intervention in post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments, depending on the facility and location.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Occupational Therapist.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred for GSS Facilities): Must also be certified through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • When applicable, may require valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients/patients/residents and design occupational therapy treatments.
  • Help clients/patients/residents to develop, maintain and recover their ability to perform tasks in client’s/patient’s/resident's occupations of life.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide interventions for clients/patients/residents who have functional, cognitive or behavioral impairments.
  • Evaluate physical, cognitive, developmental and psychosocial abilities of clients/patients/residents.
  • Develop realistic therapy goals and administer appropriate occupational therapy programs.
  • Document client's/patient's/resident's information for evaluation.
  • Establish therapeutic plans and modify them if necessary.
  • Provide clients/patients/residents education designed to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes.
  • Utilize appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations relating to the needs of clients/patients/residents.
  • Demonstrate and incorporate knowledge of current research into daily treatment of clients/patients/residents.
  • Treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders.
  • Demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients/patients/residents.
  • Follow and adhere to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.
  • Exhibit flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments.
  • Participate in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health.
  • Interact with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, family members, third party payers, public organizations, etc.
  • May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient/resident care, treatment, or other services.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by manager.
