About The Position

This position is part of the Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative (CPPI) grant, which aims to expand access to quality preschool, build locally aligned quality, and ensure equitable access to special education and inclusion. The Occupational Therapist will observe preschool learners to identify fine and gross motor skill needs, provide Tier 1/2 suggestions, offer coaching, maintain records, inform faculty about student progress, and recommend activities for school and home to enhance motor skills.

Requirements

  • Current license through state board and certification through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Ability to advocate for children to effectively problem-solve.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with all stakeholders.
  • Belief in commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Early childhood and urban experience preferred.
  • Clinical Fellows considered.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with preschool itinerant teams, including Clinical Interventionists, SPED Teacher, and S/L Pathologist.
  • Travel between several city preschool partner sites, including YMCA and Head Start.
  • Provide learning experiences aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide learning opportunities using a response to intervention (RTI) framework.
  • Implement the district's mission, educational philosophy, and instructional standards, as well as CPPI's mission.
  • Document student progress and concerns, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Complete necessary evaluations to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
  • Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Utilize innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technology, to enhance student learning and confidence.
  • Follow professional practices consistent with district policies when working with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Suggest activities for families to support their child's fine and gross motor skills.
