The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides occupational therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. The OT helps patients reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients requiring adult medical rehabilitation services. The OT is accountable for the care of patients treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students. The role may include orienting staff and students and, when qualified, assuming the supervisor’s duties and responsibilities in that individual’s absence. The OT assesses patient needs, initiates appropriate interventions, collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, evaluates treatment outcomes and progress toward goals, and recommends changes to the physician when needed. The OT completes assessments and reassessments according to policy and performs accurate, timely QI scoring.
