About The Position

Nemours Children’s Health, Becks Woods is seeking a Full-Time Occupational Therapist to join their outpatient program in Bear, Delaware. It offers intensive and acute inpatient and outpatient services across more than 30 pediatric specialties, supported by a recently completed hospital expansion. This position involves providing occupational therapy services such as patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies. The program serves children from birth to 17 with rehabilitation needs, including those with brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, and cerebral palsy (post-surgery). It also partners with Delaware’s Birth to Three Early Intervention Program for clinic-based services. The role requires proficiency in caring for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients, and the ability to provide occupational therapy services to a diverse patient population while recognizing limitations and seeking mentorship as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy or its equivalent from an ACOTE-accredited university.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required (new graduates will be considered based on educational experiences).
  • State of Delaware Occupational Therapist License required upon hire.
  • A second license will be required for all clinical positions (DE, PA, or NJ).
  • Must submit license or proof of application submission within 2 weeks of job acceptance, but this second license is not required to be active at the start of employment.
  • All clinical staff will maintain dual licensure (DE, PA, or NJ).
  • Pennsylvania clearances are required upon hire for those with a Pennsylvania license.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Member of professional specialty organizations (AOTA, State Occupational Therapy Assoc.) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services such as patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Provide occupational therapy services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
  • Complete timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attend meetings related to patient treatment and contribute to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consult with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
  • Maintain knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Complete all mandatory training; may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR, and program specific respiratory training.
  • Participate in triage and coverage planning as necessary to meet patient care and departmental needs.
  • When required by assignment, participate in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980. GL.24.
  • Participate in conflict identification and resolution.
  • Work cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program specific and specialty teams.
  • Assist in maintenance of department space and equipment.
  • Independently seek to expand clinical knowledge and evidenced based practice through literature reviews, in-services, courses, and mentorships.
  • May provide input on new treatment intervention strategies to ensure evidenced-based and current practices.
