About The Position
The occupational therapist treats patients referred for occupational therapy, according to the occupational therapy plan of care; contributes to the development of the department. Reports directly to the Director of Physical Medicine.
Requirements
- BS, MS or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Satisfactory completion of the examination by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in state of Louisiana.
- Must meet annual requirements for CEU's as stipulated by the State Board that governs the profession of Occupational Therapy.
- CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate well with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- The necessary knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
Responsibilities
- Assesses the functional needs of the patient and sets appropriate goals for that patient.
- Provides direct patient care; evaluates outcomes; and consults with other specialists, as needed.
- Provides vocational training as appropriate for patient's potential skill level.
- Provides patient/family with options for adaptive equipment.
- Oversees the care of all assigned patients and all care givers rendering such care, including support staff, volunteers and students.
- Promotes independence for Activities of Daily Living tasks.
