About The Position

This position evaluates, plans, administers, and supervises Occupational Therapy treatment in accordance with physician referrals, applicable standards and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures. The Occupational Therapist provides treatment appropriate to the ages of the patients served and works with patients, families, caregivers, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to support safe and effective care. This is a PRN registry position with Banner Staffing Services at Banner Desert in Mesa, Arizona. The described schedule is self-scheduled Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There may be an opportunity to work at other Banner facilities after completing extensive training documents. Registry positions do not have guaranteed hours, and a medical benefits package is not offered. The position requires completion of a post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen, and background check.

Requirements

Successfully completed the academic requirements of an occupational therapy educational program approved by the appropriate governing board.
Current Occupational Therapy license from the state of practice.
Current BLS certification.
Ability to become proficient with computer software applications commonly used in an automated patient-care environment.
Banner Home Care AZ employees must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintain it throughout employment.

Responsibilities

Evaluate patients’ functional abilities and limitations, determine whether intervention is needed, and complete comprehensive evaluations within departmental time frames.
Establish individualized plans of care and functional, measurable, patient-related treatment goals; identify and prioritize limiting factors; collaborate with patients and caregivers; initiate discharge planning; and recommend changes to referring orders.
Implement and adapt individualized treatment plans based on patients’ physical, social, spiritual, cultural, educational, and age-specific needs, while providing skilled treatment safely.
Assess treatment effectiveness, modify plans as indicated, involve patients and caregivers in treatment and decision-making, and provide ongoing education to the care team, patients, and families.
Document evaluations, treatment, progress, and goals legibly and within departmental and regulatory time frames and standards.
Communicate evaluation and treatment results, patient progress, and pertinent care information clearly and promptly to physicians, nurses, patients, caregivers, coworkers, and interdisciplinary team members.
Contact physicians to resolve routine or difficult problems as needed and support treatment rationale with standard practices or current literature.
Adapt to caseload, scheduling, and staffing assignments; assist in other patient-care areas and take responsibility for patient-care needs.
Direct and delegate work to COTAs, Therapy Technicians, and students in accordance with policies and regulations; participate in training and orientation; and verify personnel competency before delegating tasks.
Participate in department and facility process improvements and meet departmental productivity standards.
Interact with staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, external healthcare institutions, community providers, agencies, and physician offices regarding patient care and related information.
