About The Position

UPMC Washington’s Children’s Therapy Center is seeking a compassionate and creative Occupational Therapist to provide personalized, play-based, evidence-informed therapy to pediatric patients. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team supporting children and their families in their developmental journey. The therapist assesses, reassesses, and treats pediatric patients referred to the clinic by a physician, develops individualized plans of care, and adjusts treatment in response to patient progress or changes in status.

The position is scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Shifts of 8 or 10 hours may be needed. Coverage for medical leaves and vacations may be scheduled in advance or on call. Travel may be required between the Children’s Therapy Centers in McMurray, Pennsylvania (Waterdam Plaza) and Washington, Pennsylvania (North Avenue).

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
• Knowledge of normal human growth and development across the lifespan.
• Skills in planning and organization, follow-up and control, delegation, problem solving, self-development orientation, organizational behaviors and competencies, and stress tolerance.
• Required credentials include National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and Occupational Therapist (OT) licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required.
• CPR must meet AHA standards, including didactic and skills-demonstration components, within 30 days of hire.
• Required clearances include Act 31, 33, 34, and 73, with renewal.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of experience working as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist.
• Previous pediatric experience, including student fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Maintain written documentation for occupational therapy services, including initial assessments, follow-up visits, and discharge summaries, in accordance with department standards.
• Communicate patient status to referring physicians and other members of the health care team.
• Complete charge and statistical information accurately to reflect services provided.
• Schedule patients to meet or exceed the facility’s established productivity standard while maintaining quality patient care.
• Provide verbal or written home instructions to patients and/or family members when applicable.
• Perform occupational therapy assessments, reassessments, and treatments for pediatric patients referred to the clinic by a physician.
• Develop plans of care, including goals and treatment plans, based on the physician referral, the nature of the injury or illness, and assessment results.
• Modify or adjust plans of care based on the patient’s response to treatment or changes in status.
• Rotate through selected treatment areas when necessary to meet organizational needs.
