About The Position

The OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment to clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), RCMP, and the Department of National Defense (DND), who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma (e.g. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and other anxiety disorders; Depression; Chronic Pain, etc.). The services of the OSI Clinic are provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and an occupational therapist. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist delivers OT assessments and treatment services to Veterans and their families.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy
  • Must be licensed with College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • Two years relevant experience required
  • Counselling skills required
  • Demonstrated experience conducting both individual and group treatment
  • Ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organization
  • Self-directed in practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team while dealing with challenging clinical situations and crises
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting functional assessments and writing reports
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a military or police services environment is an asset
  • Experience with assessment of police, veterans and/or Canadian forces members with operational stress injuries including anxiety, mood, and substance use is an asset
  • Experience providing trauma focused therapy an asset
  • Experience providing treatment in an outpatient community setting an asset
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of military/police services personnel who are experiencing service related mental health problems
  • Familiarity with various psychotherapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution focused therapy, and/or motivational interviewing
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies would be an asset
  • Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) certification an asset
