About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is for a PRN - Occupational Therapist to assist with Skilled Nursing and Home Health coverage. The therapist will provide occupational therapy services in both skilled nursing facilities and home health settings. The role involves assessing clients/patients/residents, designing occupational therapy treatments, and helping them develop, maintain, and recover their ability to perform daily tasks. The therapist will conduct evaluations and provide interventions for individuals with functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments, evaluating their physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial abilities. They will develop realistic therapy goals, administer appropriate programs, document evaluations, establish and modify therapeutic plans, and provide patient education. The role requires utilizing age-related treatments and incorporating current research into daily practice. The therapist may treat individuals of all ages with various diagnoses and disorders, demonstrating documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements. They will exhibit flexibility with variable work schedules and participate in departmental and organizational promotion activities. Interaction with external stakeholders such as providers, case managers, and family members is expected. Supervision of assistants, aides, and students may be required, along with providing ongoing education to peers in areas of expertise. The role may focus on post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments depending on the facility and location.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Occupational Therapist.
  • Must also be certified through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • When applicable, may require valid driver's license.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
  • In the state of South Dakota and Iowa, new graduates in the process of testing with the board, will be considered with the possession of a temporary license.

Nice To Haves

  • When working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred for GSS Facilities): Must also be certified through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services both in the skilled nursing facility and home health setting.

  • Document client's/patient's/resident's information for evaluation.
  • Establish therapeutic plans and modify them if necessary.
  • Provide clients/patients/residents education designed to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes.
  • Utilize appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations.
  • Demonstrate and incorporate knowledge of current research into daily treatment.
  • May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders.
  • Demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate level of treatment associated with their specialty.
  • Follow and adhere to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.
  • Exhibit flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments.
  • Participate in activities to promote the department, Good Samaritan Society and Sanford Health.
  • Interact with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, family members, third party payers, public organizations, etc.
  • May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient/resident care, treatment, or other services.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by manager.
