About The Position

Rehabilitation Hospital of Oak Creek is a brand-new 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility opening in 2026. We offer high-quality, compassionate care for a wide variety of patients in need. We strive to maximize the health, function, and quality of life of those we serve through comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation programs. This role assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students. The position may involve orienting staff and students and assuming supervisory duties in their absence, as qualified. The Occupational Therapist will assess patient needs, identify and initiate appropriate interventions, and work cooperatively with other team members to maintain standards of practice and teamwork. Responsibilities include observing and evaluating treatment effects, assessing goal accomplishment, recommending changes to physicians, performing patient assessments and reassessments, and performing timely QI scoring. The patient population includes adult and geriatric patients requiring an adult medical rehabilitation program. The role involves assessing and managing patient pain that interferes with function, formulating teaching plans, and performing appropriate documentation. The therapist will report patient progress and discharge barriers in team conferences and demonstrate knowledge of occupational therapy modalities.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state where the hospital is located.
  • Previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR card.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability as indicated for the care of those patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians and occupational therapy students.
  • May be assigned to orient staff and students and assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual as qualified to do so.
  • Assesses patients’ needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional occupational therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Observes and evaluates treatment affect, accomplishment of short- and long-term goals.
  • Recommends change to physician, if needed.
  • Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments, as per policy.
  • Performs accurate and timely QI scoring.
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function of participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate.
  • Performs appropriate documentation.
  • Reports patient progress and barriers to discharge in each patient team conference.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities.
