About The Position

The Occupational Therapist has the responsibility to evaluate, establish a plan of care, and treat patients referred within PM&R. This role involves applying the theory of Occupational Therapy under the bylaws of the Texas State Practice Act and the AOTA Code of Ethics. The position requires close interaction with physicians, nurses, patients, professional staff, and support personnel, with the flexibility to schedule around these services and organize time efficiently to treat the maximum number of patients. The therapist is also expected to assist co-workers with patient load conflicts or cancellations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited occupational therapist program. If OT license was received prior to 1990, then prior educational requirements/criteria will be considered.
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas State Occupational Therapist license.
  • Must be able to apply the theory of Occupational Therapy under the bylaws of the Texas State Practice Act and the AOTA Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to perform technical procedures.
  • Ability to instill confidence in patients, physicians, and other staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of evaluation and treatment techniques/skills and therapy procedures appropriate to the age of the patient and within medical limits of the patient while taking into consideration any special precautions/contraindications the patient may have.
  • Completes proper documentation and billing necessary for Occupational Therapy.
  • Participate in clinical education by functioning as a CI for OT/OTA students.
  • May be assigned to other specialty areas in PM&R Department, and expectation is that therapist will be competent in all assigned areas.
  • All other duties related assigned responsibilities.
