Evaluates and treats patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits. The Occupational Therapist assesses a patient's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills, designs the appropriate plan of care, implements the treatment plan using appropriate modalities, documents findings of patient progress, and monitors and modifies the plan of care as needed. They also seek consultation as necessary, educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits, and plan and/or assist with patient discharge from therapy services, providing information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs. The role also involves overseeing the care provided by designated individuals according to established regulations and practice standards, and working in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
