The Occupational Therapist in Acute Care is responsible for evaluating patients' physical, perceptual, cognitive, social, and vocational abilities and their impact on daily living activities. They establish and implement individualized treatment plans using appropriate techniques, provide and fabricate assistive devices and splints, and monitor patient progress. The role involves planning for discharge, including patient/family teaching, referrals, and equipment ordering. Collaboration with stakeholders, accurate documentation, and adherence to billing and productivity standards are essential. The therapist will also perform manual techniques, patient positioning, and utilize various equipment and modalities, ensuring patient safety and participating in performance improvement activities. They manage their caseload, assist with coverage, and pursue professional growth. Supervision of occupational therapy assistants, extenders, and students may also be required.
