About The Position

Occupational Therapist VCU Tappahannock Hospital, Middle Peninsula, Virginia VCU Tappahannock Hospital, nestled in the scenic Middle Peninsula and serving the Northern Neck region, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Occupational Therapist PRN. This position is crucial for providing high-quality care to our community, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive evaluations, treatment planning, and education.

Requirements

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in Virginia.
  • CPR Certification if required by the clinic or practice area.
  • REQUIRED: New graduate to up to 2 years of work experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Ability to evaluate and treat patients with routine diagnoses.
  • Competence in setting schedules, managing time, and completing documentation.
  • Effective interaction with interdisciplinary teams and self-directed work teams.
  • Customer service skills for interacting with patients and families.
  • Licensed (or licensed eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist
  • Completion of licensing requirements for new graduates within 1 year of graduation.
  • Maintenance of licensure once granted.
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area
  • Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses.
  • Setting schedule and managing time.
  • Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Goal setting for routine diagnoses.
  • Completion of routine documentation.
  • Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self-directed work team.
  • Customer interaction.
  • Occupational Therapist provides supervision for Rehab Technicians, COTA staff, volunteers and students doing clinical rotations.
  • Schedules and work hours will be established with your specific Manager.
  • Schedules, including weekends and holidays, will be required based on the unit’s organizational and staffing needs.
  • Physical - Lifting 50-100 lbs.
  • Activities: Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
  • Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a similar healthcare facility.
  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Evaluation and Treatment:
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of referred patients.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow-up care.
  • Documentation:
  • Accurately document evaluation results and services provided.
  • Adhere to hospital and department guidelines for documentation.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Participate as a member of both self-directed departmental and interdisciplinary patient care teams.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to goal setting for routine diagnoses.
  • Clinical Instruction and Training:
  • Provide clinical instruction to OT and OTA students.
  • Offer training and education to department and hospital staff.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Rehab Technicians, COTA staff, volunteers, and students during clinical rotations.
