About The Position

Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867. Today, we are an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, offering the only advanced trauma care between Fresno and Los Angeles. Kern Medical offers a range of primary, specialty, and multi-specialty services including high-risk pregnancy care, inpatient psychiatric services integrated with county mental health programs, and a growing network of outpatient clinics providing personalize patient-centered wellness care. Kern Medical cares for 15,000 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year. Per Diem employees supplement department staffing needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours. Must be willing and available to work four (4) shifts per six (6) week scheduling period.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy
  • Current licensure by the State of California as an Occupational Therapist
  • Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Responder or Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Provider certification within 30 days of employment.
  • As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Provider certification and competency.
  • Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical
  • Knowledge of the principles and purposes of occupational therapy
  • Knowledge of the operation and care of occupational therapy equipment
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Ability to administer various types of occupational therapy services
  • Ability to work effectively with handicapped persons
  • Ability to teach
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with allied health personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients
  • Ability to teach and supervise subordinate staff

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid certificate issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association preferred.
  • Other unit specific certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Confers with physicians regarding the type of occupational therapy service required for the patient; evaluates functional performance capabilities of patients; Develops treatment plans for patients designed to assist patients to achieve optimal functioning; Administers specialized occupational therapy procedures, including application of splints and instruction in use of adaptive equipment; Teaches corrective exercises to patients; Assists patients with particular adjustment problems; Participates in in-service programs for staff; Maintains records of services.
