Occupational Therapist - Mental Health
About The Position

The occupational therapist will also serve as an advocate, promoter of health and wellness, and an educator/mentor for students, peers, and other medical professionals. This specific role focuses on mental health, treating patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings within one of the largest psychiatric treatment groups in the United States. Treatment will be provided individually and in groups across various inpatient units including Psychiatric Acute Care, Medical and Geriatric Psychiatry, Mood Disorder, and Child, Adolescent, and Family Treatment Units. There may also be opportunities for training in Pain Rehabilitation Centers and the John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility. Weekend rotations will involve supporting general acute clients (physical disabilities) in St. Marys Hospital.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota as an Occupational Therapist.
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of organization, communication, interpersonal relations, leadership, decision making, and problem solving.
- NBCOT certification as an OTR is required for employment at Mayo Clinic (both upon hiring and ongoing certification every 3 years).
- Current occupational therapy licensure in the state of Minnesota.
Nice To Haves
- Prefer board certification in clinical specialty area and/or advanced degree in health care field.
- Also prefer active participation within professional organization.
Responsibilities
- Application of current knowledge, theory, evidence, and sound clinical judgment in patient management.
- Work closely with the patient, family, and other members of an interdisciplinary team to provide efficient and effective individualized patient care.
- Serve as advocates and promoters of health, wellness, and fitness to all stakeholders.
- Serve as educators and mentors for therapy students, peers, and other medical professionals.
- Assist with department and program planning.
- Treat patients both individually and in groups in inpatient units: Psychiatric Acute Care Unit, Medical and Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, Mood Disorder Unit, and the Child, and the Adolescent and Family Treatment Unit.
- Potential training in The Adult and Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Centers and the John E. Herman Home and Treatment Facility.
- Support for the general acute clients (physical disabilities) in St. Marys Hospital during weekend rotations.
