About The Position

This position involves evaluating, planning, and performing treatments to alleviate physical, cognitive/perceptual, psychosocial, and/or developmental dysfunction using purposeful activities and restorative therapeutic techniques. The Occupational Therapist I will also participate in departmental activities to ensure smooth operations and facilitate program enhancement. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy or a bachelor's degree with a certificate or diploma for successful completion of a post-degree program in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current MA state license as Occupational Therapist. New graduates and out-of-state licensed occupational therapists are expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 6 months of hire date.
  • Successful completion of national certification exam.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products.

Responsibilities

  • Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plans for various patient populations (infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, frail elderly, inpatient or outpatient) with physical, cognitive, developmental, and/or functional disabilities.
  • Analyzes and interprets data, assesses current functional ability, researches specific problems, and makes differential diagnoses when appropriate. Consults with physicians regarding contradictions or alternative therapies and assesses patient progress relative to rehabilitation potential.
  • Designs treatment plans based on evaluations and assessments, establishing short- and long-term goals. Utilizes therapeutic interventions and activities to remediate, restore, and/or compensate for losses in physical, perceptual, cognitive, sensory, psychosocial, and functional skills, providing treatment in individual and group settings.
  • Selects purposeful activities suited to the patient's functional level to maximize independence.
  • Educates patients, families, and other caregivers on therapy programs and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, and assists with discharge planning. Discusses patient treatment and progress with physicians, including any new or inconsistent findings.
  • Documents care provided in the medical record, completes therapy billing and departmental statistics. Assists in maintaining an orderly, safe, and efficient working environment and assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
  • Assists in the education and development of staff. Delegates caseloads to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance. Collaborates with team members to ensure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.
  • Participates in department quality improvement/assurance activities and program development initiatives.
  • Supervises students according to Practice Standards.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends various meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates the use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility, and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
