About The Position

Professional Physical Therapy is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist / Hand Therapist for a full-time position in Whitestone, NY. This role is for experienced clinicians only, not new graduates. Requirements

  • Active (or in-progress) New York State Occupational Therapist license.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics and/or hand therapy preferred.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) strongly preferred; candidates actively pursuing CHT will also be considered.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and patient-centered care skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team-based clinical environment.
  • Commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and inclusive care.
  • This position is not intended for new graduate clinicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in outpatient orthopedics and/or hand therapy.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) or actively pursuing CHT.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations focused on upper-extremity and functional performance.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to restore function, reduce pain, and prevent disability.
  • Deliver hands-on therapy interventions aligned with physician referrals and patient goals.
  • Fabricate splints and provide adaptive equipment training as appropriate.
  • Educate patients on home exercise programs, task modification, and functional strategies.
  • Communicate consistently with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans to maximize outcomes.
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and support staff to deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Support and guide Occupational Therapy Assistants and aides, as applicable.
