About The Position

We seek a dynamic self-starter who is driven to grow an outpatient occupational therapy program at the state’s only NCI-designated cancer center. Housed on the campus of OU’s OTD and DPT training programs, you can mentor students while delivering patient-centered care alongside physical therapists and within a larger, interprofessional OU Health team. Make an impact in our academic practice by tailoring evidence-based interventions to help your clients achieve their goals before, during, and after cancer treatment. Under general supervision, performs professional Occupational Therapy activities consisting of planning, evaluating, establishing and implementing individual and group treatment activities under the direction of a physician.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as an Occupational Therapist OR eligible to sit for the exam. License must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional occupational therapy and the materials and supplies utilized in the program.
  • Skill in organizing and instructing occupational therapy activities.
  • Ability to interpret prescriptions related to therapy needed.
  • Good interpersonal skills in establishing effective working relations with staff.
  • Ability to communicate instructions and technical information to patients.
  • Some computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret a physician’s referral and select an appropriate standardized evaluation procedure
  • Evaluate patient in the following areas: independent living skills, occupational performance, prevocational work adjustment, educational skills, play-leisure abilities, social skills and various psychosocial skills
  • Interpret the data and develop a treatment plan involving short and long term goals, frequency and duration of treatment
  • Assist patient in carrying out these procedures through the design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices, joint protection and body mechanics
  • Inform patient and family goals and progress
  • Assist with discharge planning by ordering equipment and instructing patient on home therapy plan
  • May supervise students
  • Performs other duties as assigned
