About The Position

The Occupational Therapist Assistant PRN in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) plays a critical role in supporting patients' rehabilitation and recovery by assisting licensed occupational therapists in delivering therapeutic interventions. This position focuses on helping patients regain or improve their ability to perform daily living activities, thereby enhancing their independence and quality of life. The assistant works closely with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to implement treatment plans tailored to individual needs. By monitoring patient progress and reporting outcomes, the assistant ensures that therapy goals are met effectively and safely. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the varying demands of a PRN (pro re nata) schedule within the dynamic SNF environment across the United States.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current and valid state licensure or certification as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow treatment plans and work under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.

  • Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility or long-term care environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems used in rehabilitation settings.
  • Additional certifications related to geriatric care or rehabilitation therapy.
  • Ability to work PRN (as needed) with flexible scheduling availability.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist occupational therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans for patients recovering from injury, illness, or surgery within the SNF setting.
  • Provide direct therapeutic interventions under the supervision of an occupational therapist, including exercises, activities, and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising therapist to ensure effective care adjustments.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients during therapy sessions, ensuring compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
