About The Position

The Occupational Therapist Assistant works in a skilled nursing setting with patients recovering from strokes, hip fractures, cardiac events, and progressive neurological conditions. The role supports functional independence through interventions addressing activities of daily living, cognitive retraining, upper-extremity rehabilitation, and safe discharge planning. The assistant helps develop individualized treatment plans and works with the care team to coordinate patient care. The position may be available full-time, part-time, or per diem.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current or eligible for New York State OTA licensure.
• NBCOT certification or eligibility for certification.
• Passion for helping patients regain independence.
• Strong clinical reasoning and creative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Occupational Therapist in performing procedures, tests, and complex treatments to support safe and effective patient evaluation and treatment.
• Develop individualized treatment plans focused on functional independence.
• Collaborate with nursing, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and social work to coordinate patient care.
• Address patients’ self-care skills, cognitive and perceptual deficits, home safety, adaptive equipment needs, and caregiver training.
• Provide functional interventions related to activities of daily living, cognitive retraining, upper-extremity rehabilitation, and safe discharge planning.
