About The Position

The UW Medical Center-Montlake – Exercise Training Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Occupational Therapist 2 - Certified Hand Therapist. WORK SCHEDULE Full-Time / 40 Hours Per Week Day Shift POSITION HIGHLIGHTS The Hand Therapist will provide services to patients using specialized skills, including assess, plan, administer, evaluate and provide safe hand therapy. This will include progression of treatment goals and patient and family education. The Hand Therapist will assess and treat a patient caseload ranging from routine to complex patient problems and situations. Collaborate with other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission to discharge. Implement treatment programs, which include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, fabrication of orthoses, and evidence-based utilization of physical agents. Instruct, assign work and evaluate students as assigned by supervisor. The Therapist acts as a resource within the Exercise Training Center.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program AND successful completion of American Occupational Therapy Association certification examination AND 12 months of professional occupational therapy experience.
  • OR Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification or registration.
  • Licensed by the state of Washington as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients for treatment and evaluations.
  • Plan treatment programs with the patient and treatment team.
  • Collaborate with the therapy departments throughout UW Medicine to optimize patient care and staffing.
  • Interpret and carry out the referrals of the physician and other referring providers; protect confidential data; demonstrate economic use of time, equipment and supplies; provide for the safety and welfare of patients and other employees.
  • Document intervention and strategies for treatment in required organizational systems. Documentation includes assessment, measurable criteria, goals, method of treatment, home program and plan. Adapts plans according to patient responses to interventions.
  • Provide home programs and other educational information to patient and support systems prior to termination of therapy intervention.
  • Coordinate patient care programs with treatment team to facilitate and enhance functional outcomes.
  • Assist in the review of program quality and development of procedures and protocols for the service area.
  • Educate, instruct, and be a resource to, residents training at the Exercise Training Center, in the area of hand and occupational therapy.
  • Supervise clinical performance evaluation of affiliating OT and OTA students.
  • Fabricate orthoses for a variety of non-operative and post-operative conditions with a variety of orthotic materials.
